Home Visit System
One adventurous way to get
to know Japan is through the Home Visit System, by which
some 1,000 English-speaking Japanese families have opened
up their homes to visiting foreigners. To take advantage
of this unique gesture, apply in person at least 24 hours,
and preferably two days, in advance. |

Goodwill
Guide Program
While Japan is one of the safest and most orderly countries
of the world, with a very low crime rate, it can at times
be confusing to get around in. City streets, particularly
in Tokyo, are often narrow and winding, while building
numbers follow systems that to the uninitiatedand sometimes
the locals-seem arbitrary and confusing. And though many
people, especially students and young adults in the cities,
do speak some English, you can't count on that at all
times. |
| |
So, to make your
stay in Japan as memorable and trouble-free as possible,
JNTO has launched its Goodwill Guide Program, through
which bilingual volunteers are made available to visitors.
Some 46,000 goodwill guides are registered with the program,
and given the right to wear the program's identifying
badge. Look for the program's participants in the cities
of Sapporo, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto,
Nara,
Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Beppu, Kagoshima and others. |
